Chocolate Caramel Nut Bars

Ingredients

  • 1 x 14 oz. bag of caramels
  • 1 x 5 oz. can evaporated milk, divided
  • 1 package German chocolate cake mix with pudding in the mix.
  • 1/2 cup butter, melted
  • 1 1/2 cup walnuts, chopped & divided
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chunks

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°.
  2. Place caramels & 1/3 cup of milk in heavy saucepan.
  3. Cook on low heat until caramels are melted, stirring frequently. Set aside.
  4. Mix remaining milk, cake mix & butter.
  5. Press 1/2 of the cake mix into bottom of 13×9 baking pan.
  6. Bake for 10 minutes.
  7. Sprinkle 1 cup of walnuts & 1/2 cup of chocolate over batter.
  8. Add caramel mixture. Spread to the edges of the pan.
  9. Add teaspoons of remaining cake mixture. Press batter gently into caramel.
  10. Top w/ remaining walnuts & chocolate.
  11. Bake for 18 minutes until lightly browned.
  12. Cool completely then cut into bars.
